The Scarlet Gown

I created this bouquet for a lady's birthday. Her daughter wanted to remind her how special she is and how much her family love and treasure her. The daughter mentioned how her mum's favourite red dressing gown was a constant feature in their lives, and there it was an obvious theme for The Scarlet Gown story and bouquet.

Floral storytelling
The Scarlet Gown
It hangs upon the bedroom door, a velvet flame of red,
Older than the children now, and all the words they’ve said.
It’s seen the dawn of a thousand days, the steam of morning tea, The Scarlet Anchor in the storm, upon a restless sea.
It’s walked a thousand miles of floor, through storms of recent years, the fabric is tough as tempered steel despite the weight of wearied tears.
From its deep threads, a legacy is passed to Elsie’s hand, that quiet, crimson fortitude, the "wild ones" understand.
It’s first upon the dance floor tiles, and last to leave the light; it’s dragging shadows by the hand, to dance into the night.
It has no zipper, has no lock, its sleeves are opened wide,
with room for every passing soul to find a place inside.
A counsellor in cotton folds, a heartbeat in the wool,
the pockets of its tired hem are never anything but full.
It gives away its very warmth, aheart of purest grain;
to keep the cold from strangers’ lives and soften every rain.
Oh, blessed be the scarlet gown, the anchor and the soul.
The thread that keeps a family heart, content, brave and whole.
For though the fabric fades away, as decades come and go;
the woman in the red remains the brightest light we know.
Happy Birthday to our Scarlet Gown xxx
